The Karnataka High Court has ruled that it is unconstitutional on the part of the state government to collect lifetime tax on non-Karnataka registered vehicles.
The court struck down the Karnataka Motor Vehicle Taxation (Amendment) Act, 2014 which provides for collecting lifetime tax on such vehicles.

In his order, Justice Anand Byrareddy has quashed the demand notices issued by the RTOs to several owners of out-of-Karnataka vehicles after seizing their vehicles, asking them to pay lifetime tax here. The Hindu
